We are pleased to announce that Ryan Gibb has joined the Holiday Films roster for commercial film representation
An avid mountain biker and film lover, Canadian Ryan Gibb has managed to combine his passions in his work as a director, director of photography and editor. Having worked as a director for Red Bull, directed action sports film Life Cycles and the award-winning documentary 199 Lives, about the life of freestyle motorbike daredevil Travis Pastrana, Ryan is now bringing his vibrant visual storytelling style to Holiday Films, where he has signed for commercial representation.
Whether it’s filming high-flying sports for Red bull or creating strong and vivid imagery for commercial client Tigercat, Ryan’s work captures beautiful, subtle and simple moments in nature, technology and of the human condition and transforms them into the extraordinary.
“Ryan’s work is intensely photographic with a keen eye for natural light and careful composition,” explains Josefina Nadurata, Partner and Executive Producer, Holiday Films. “His visual sensibility and delightful persona is a welcome addition to our roster.”
Ryan’s pathway to becoming a filmmaker started when he became a sponsored freeride mountain biker at the age of 21. A featured rider in numerous mountain bike films, he became hooked on filmmaking while observing the process around him.
He went on to study film at Brigham Young University and upon graduation in 2006, Ryan was hired to film Travis Pastrana doc 199 Lives. Not only did this project provide Ryan with hands-on filmmaking experience, it also allowed him to develop a working relationship with Pastrana’s sponsor, Red Bull. Through working with Red Bull, he deepened his production knowledge by shooting things as complex as F1 racecars to something as simple as Jamaican boxcars.
After a year of working for Red Bull, Ryan teamed up with still photographer Derek Frankowski to make Life Cycles, a film that would have an impact on the action sports filmmaking industry. Life Cycles has gone on to win multiple awards and continues to make waves in the action sports world. Ryan has also worked on commercial film projects for Converse and Tigercat.
Settling down in Rossland, B.C., with his wife Kaylee and baby girl, is a perfect fit for his lifestyle and is where Ryan draws a lot of his inspiration from as a filmmaker.
