Last night I attended the premiere of “Butter”, a political satire directed by Jim Field Smith. “Butter” is Smith’s second feature and stars an a-list ensemble cast including Jennifer Garner (who also produced the film), Ty Burrell, Alicia Silverstone, Olivia Wilde and Hugh Jackman.
The film tells the story of a Michelle Bachman/Sarah Palin type character (Garner) who enters an Iowa state butter carving competition and goes to extreme lengths to ensure her victory.
Harvey Weinstein was in attendance and wrote a statement read by Olivia Wilde in which he invited Bachman to the movie’s upcoming premiere in Iowa. Ever the producer, Weinstein mentioned that since Bachman will be in Iowa for the caucas, they could save money on airfare and travel.
The film was very well-received by the audience and the cast raved about Smith who, according to (a very pregnant and glowing) Garner, is a director who “takes a licking and keeps on ticking.” Who wouldn’t want to work with him?
There’s no trailer yet, but you can watch the cast talk about their characters in this video.
Holiday is pleased to rep Jim Field Smith for commercial production in Canada. Check out his reel.
